Greetings on behalf of the Iowa Music Teachers Association and its 400-plus members across the state! IMTA is an affiliate of the Music Teachers National Association and proud recipient of the 2006 MTNA State Affiliate of the Year Award. We continue to support and uphold the standards of teaching to develop programs for students and teachers. Our teachers are committed to the advancement of music education and programs that cultivate professional growth.
Since its inception in 1885, IMTA and its growing sixteen local associations have continued to offer conferences, pedagogical workshops, student performance and composition competitions, theory and ear training assessment, non-competitive festivals, and scholarships in order to motivate teachers and students. A few of the IMTA member benefits include professional certification, teacher networking through our local associations and mentoring program, access to our incomparable graded repertoire list and syllabus, optional insurance and legal support through MTNA and a subscription to two superior publications; the American Music Teacher published bi-monthly and the Iowa Music Teacher published quarterly.
